Types of Input Mechanism

Type of Input Mechanism are fallowing

1. Optical Scanning
An optical Scanner is also known as scanner that reads printed text or graphics and translates it in digital form. The scanned image can be used for different purposes as follows:
It can be displayed on screen.
It can be printed on the paper.
It can also be sent via email.
It can be posted on a web page.
It can also be stored permanently for later use.
The quality of scanned images depends on the resolution. Resolution describes the sharpness of an images.

Types of Optical Scanner

1.Flatbed Scanner

Flatbed Scanner is the most commonly used scanner. It is also called image scanner. It inputs one page at a time. It works like a photocopy machine. It is generally used at home and office to scan photos, book pages and other documents etc.

2.Sheet fed Scanner

A sheet fed scanner works similarly to a flatbed scanner but documents are inserted on the top of the scanner like a fax machine.

3. Hard held Scanner

A Handheld is a portable scanner. It typically can scan only 2 to 5 inches at a time. Handheld scanners are useful to input small amount of data. The scanner must be moved over the image to be scanned by hand.

Bar code Readers

Bar code reader is also called bar code scanner. Bar code scanner uses a laser beam to read bar codes and translate them into digital signal. The digital signals are then further processed by computer. Bar code consist of vertical lines and spaces of different width. The bar code represents data that identifies the manufacturer and item. The conventional Types of Bar code are called one dimension (1D) bar codes. because they contain data horizontally in one direction. A type of bar code stores information both horizontally and vertically and can hold significantly more data. They are known as two dimensional (2D) bar codes.

Magnetic stripe card reader

Magnetic stripe card reader is also called mag stripe reader. It reads the magnetic stripe on the back of credit cards and bank cards etc. The stripe is divided into three horizontal tracks. It contains information to identify the user and the card assuring company.
The Information on the stripe include user name, account number, card expiration data and country code. The magnetic stripe reader reads the information stored on the stripe when the user swipe the card. The mag stripe reader reject the card if its damaged, dirty or erased. The contents of the magnetic stripe can erased due to magnetic fields.

Bio Metric Input Devices

Bio Metric is a technology to authenticate the identity of a person by verifying personal characteristics. A bio metric identifier is a physiological or behavioral characteristics of a person. The finger prints, Hard geometry, facial features, voice and eye patterns are some examples of bio metric identifiers.
